Plants can add life and color to your outdoor space. When selecting your plants for the container, be sure to include a "thriller, filler and spiller." Sweet potato vines make an excellent spiller and can withstand the Texas heat.
If you want your outdoor space to feel like an extension of the living room or dining room, try hanging a wall mirror or other wall decor. A mirror is a great way to bring in some light if your patio is covered.
Accent stools are a fun way to add color and texture to your patio. It's also functional and serves as a table for your small potted plants or your favorite summer cocktail. If your accent stool is ceramic, be sure it's not in an area where children are playing to avoid it being knocked over (I know this from experience)!
It's all about the pillows! You can never have too many toss pillows (although my husband might disagree)! Start with a neutral outdoor couch or sectional and add lots of colorful pillows to make your space cozy and comfortable. I love that you can easily change up the look of your space by simply adding new pillows.
Lanterns are an essential when it comes to the outdoors. They are so versatile and can be set on the floor, table, or even hung as a light fixture. Whether they are placed on your back patio or by the front door, they are sure to add some character to your space.
A rug is another great way to make your patio feel more like an extension of your house, rather than just a slab of concrete. Not only does it feel great on your feet, but it really defines the space. They are also usually more affordable than indoor rugs, and I love that you can hose them off when my boys drag mud and dirt onto them!
One of my favorite additions to our back yard this year were our string lights! They are so fun and they really add the perfect amount of light while we are sitting outside in the evenings. I highly recommend them!
