This weekend I had the privilege to decorate one of my best friend's family room in Houston, TX. Her and her husband recently moved into their first home and were looking to add some finishing touches to their family room. They have a precious little girl, Charlotte, on the way so the space needed to be casual and comfortable for a baby to play in over the next few years. I love the way we were able to mix their need for casual with their contemporary style!
They had already made some excellent purchases like this Pottery Barn Pearce sectional and neutral rug.
They also already had the gold and glass nesting tables that we simply relocated to the family room to make it feel slightly more contemporary. The pops of gold look amazing with the more subtle, gray tones!
We ended up using several different metals (which I was unsure about at first), and they all look terrific together! You can see the gold tables above, mixed with brushed nickel and even mercury glass.
These wooden planter baskets in the bookshelves give the room a more casual, natural feel.
Add some throw pillows and a cozy blanket... I probably should have removed the remotes for the pictures but this is real life, folks!
And check out the built-in shelves! There are twenty-four cubbies! Twenty-four?! I had my work cut out to fill these babies but they are looking mighty fine!
We added some birch logs by the fireplace which are perfect for fall, but I actually think they will look great year-round.
This might be my favorite part of the room. A cozy little chair to curl up in and read a book! In addition to pillows and baskets, I am obsessed with lamps!
I placed several of these boxwood plants throughout the shelves to make it feel more cohesive and put together.
So while the guy gets to look at this amazing TV, the girl gets to look at these amazing bookshelves! It's a win-win, right?!
It was so much fun working on this project and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! If you feel like you have a room that needs some finishing touches, give me a call and I'd love to help! My goal is to make your house feel like a home!
